RAILWAY ENTHUSIASTS
Ukko-Pekka is one of the steam engines in use by Höyryveturimatkat 1009 Oy. It is a Pacific Class steam locomotive and the nickname was taken from a popular President of Finland, who was known affectionately as Uncle Peter. Our volunteers cover the maintenance and heating of our engines and carriages and if you have any engineering skills to offer we would welcome you to the group. Our present team is qualified to run the steam trains. We can train volunteers in all operations of steam boilers. Volunteers will be trained in all aspects of cleaning, refuelling and supplying water for the engine, and more qualified people will be trained in heating the engine and doing the more demanding maintenance work and repairs. The control of the high pressure steam boiler requires official validity certification and permission of the authorities. We also have a registered trained volunteer in case of accidents. All equipment is stored in the old engine sheds at Pasila, located south of the new Pasila station. For additional information please see contact numbers below.
